Prospective Students

 

The Department of Economics focuses on teaching, research, and outreah in regard to economic issues at the state, national, and international levels. We offer general education courses that provide undergraduates from across the university with a background in the business, policy, and international aspects of economics they need to support their programs of study.

 

The majority of our faculty are engaged in interdiscplinary or international reserach collaboration.

 

College of Science or College of Business

The Department of Economics offers students the choice of two programs. A student can major in Economics, College of Science, (ECAS)  or Economics, College of Business, (ECON). Students need to consider career objectives and graduate school goals when selecting which major is right for them.

Change of Major Process

The Department of Economics accepts major changes to Economics during three periods throughout the academic year. Students may change their major in August,  January, and May. The next Change of Major period will be January 5-9, 2015.

 

For a student to change their major to Economics they must meet with the Undergraduate Advisor before December 18th to have your major change approved in January. The advisor will review their academic history, determine their ability to satisfy the college and department progress toward degree (policy 91) and provide the student with all paperwork required by the department and college to complete the change of major process.

 

A student changing their major to Economics, College of Science (ECAS) will be given a change of major with instructions for completing the form. A student changing their major to Economics, College of Business (ECON) will complete a form to indicate that they have met with the advisor. This form will remain on file until the student completes the change of major process on the Pamplin website during the next open change of major period for the college.
